The Centre has approved ₹647.20 crore for widening and upgrading the Khanpur-Karvad section of National Highway-56 in Gujarat’s Valsad district, aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and supporting growing traffic demand in the industrial and coastal region.

“In Gujarat, ₹647.20 crore has been approved for the upgradation and widening of the Khanpur-Karvad section of NH-56 in Valsad district to a 4-lane / 2-lane with paved shoulder configuration,” Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday, 24 February.

The project covers a total stretch of 45 Km, with 21.25 Km passing through built-up areas to be widened to a four-lane configuration, while the remaining sections will be upgraded with paved shoulders to improve traffic flow and safety.

The highway will be constructed using rigid concrete pavement and will include five major bridges, designed to withstand higher traffic loads and improve durability in Valsad’s heavy rainfall conditions.

“The project includes construction of a rigid pavement road along with five major bridges. The use of concrete pavement will accommodate increased traffic loads and enhance durability, especially in the high-rainfall conditions of Valsad,” the minister said.

“Out of the total 45 km stretch, 21.25 km passing through built-up areas will be widened to a 4-lane configuration,” Gadkari added.

The minister added that the improved road safety features and upgraded intersections will ensure safer and smoother movement for commuters.

“This development will significantly strengthen regional connectivity and facilitate faster movement of goods and passengers. It will boost trade, support local industries, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of the region,” the minister said.
