India’s first RRTS will become fully operational as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the remaining 26 Km section of the 82 Km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor during his visit to Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on 22 February 2026.
With the inauguration of the final 5 Km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21 Km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh, the entire 82 Km corridor will be completed end-to-end.
The Namo Bharat system has a design speed of 180 kmph and is aimed at enabling high-speed intercity connectivity between Delhi and key urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut.
Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the corridor, will be commissioned as a major multi-modal transport hub.
It will provide seamless connectivity to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and Ring Road.
In Meerut, three additional Namo Bharat stations – Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram – will also be commissioned as part of the inauguration.
The Prime Minister will flag off the Namo Bharat train from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station.
Alongside the regional corridor, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Meerut Metro will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat RRTS system.
Meerut Metro will be India’s fastest metro system with maximum operational speed of around 120 kmph, and will cover the entire stretch in just 30 minutes, with all the scheduled stoppages enroute.
According to a PMO release, this seamless integration of Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro on the same infrastructure will ensure high-speed intercity travel and swift intra-city movement, setting a benchmark for integrated urban and regional transit in India.
It will decongest road traffic and consequently lead to significant reduction in vehicular carbon dioxide emissions, the release added.
