Centre sanctions ₹1,463.95 crore for six-lane greenfield road corridor linking NH-205A Ambala-Chandigarh section with Zirakpur Bypass as the Centre has approved ₹1,463.95 crore for the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield spur in Punjab, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday, 19 February.

The proposed spur will link the Ambala-Chandigarh section of National Highway 205A with the Zirakpur Bypass, forming a key component of the Tricity Ring Road project aimed at improving regional mobility.

Announcing the decision, Gadkari posted on X, “In Punjab, we have approved ₹1,463.95 crore for the construction of a 6-lane, access-controlled greenfield spur linking the Ambala-Chandigarh section of NH-205A with the Zirakpur Bypass.”

He added, “As part of the Tricity Ring Road project, the corridor will decongest key urban junctions across Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula by diverting through-traffic.”

According to the minister, the new corridor is expected to ease heavy congestion on NH-44, NH-205A, and NH-152.

It will also enable faster and more seamless connectivity towards Himachal Pradesh, particularly the Shimla region, reducing travel time and strengthening regional economic integration.

The project is intended to streamline traffic movement in the rapidly growing Tricity region-comprising Mohali in Punjab, Chandigarh, and Panchkula in Haryana-while supporting improved connectivity to neighbouring hill states.
