The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), also known as the Namo Bharat corridor, is approaching full completion, with physical progress reaching 96.4 per cent and financial progress at 90.2 per cent as of 31 December 2025.

This information was provided by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on 5 February 2026.

The 82.15 Km corridor, sanctioned in March 2019, aims to transform intercity travel between Delhi and Meerut.

Currently, a 55 Km stretch from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South is operational, offering a significant reduction in travel time.

“The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, covering a length of 82.15 Km, was sanctioned by Government of India in March, 2019, out of which, 55 Km of the corridor is operational at present,” Sahu said.

“As on 31.12.2025, the Physical and Financial progress of the corridor is 96.40 per cent and 90.20 per cent respectively. Further, National Capital Region Transport Corporation Ltd. (NCRTC), the implementing agency for Namo Bharat RRTS corridor, has informed daily ridership of 1.67 lakh on Sarai Kale Khan (SKK)-Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS corridor,” the minister added.

Once fully functional, trains on the corridor are expected to reach speeds of up to 180 Km per hour, reducing travel time between Delhi and Meerut to under one hour compared to the current 1.5 to 2 hours by road.

The corridor is anticipated to serve lakhs of passengers daily, addressing rising demand for high-capacity regional transport.

Integration with existing transport networks at Sarai Kale Khan, including the Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and bus services, is expected to enhance connectivity across the National Capital Region.

As the project nears completion, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation is preparing to initiate work on additional corridors, including the Delhi-Panipat-Karnal and Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar routes, subject to formal approvals.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS is positioned as a transformative regional mobility project, with implications for economic growth, congestion reduction, and environmental sustainability in the National Capital Region.
