The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has crossed multiple construction milestones across Gujarat and Maharashtra, with major civil works progressing across multiple sections of the corridor.
As on 27 January 2026, around 334 Km of viaducts, 417 km of pier works have been completed, along with 17 river bridges and 12 major crossings over national highways, railways, and other infrastructure, according to a release by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited.
The 508 Km MAHSR corridor spans 352 Km in Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and 156 Km in Maharashtra.
It is planned to connect Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai, positioning the route as a high-speed passenger link across major industrial and urban centres.
In Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a total of 7 mountain tunnels are under progress.
According to the data provided by NHSRCL in the release, Mountain Tunnel 1 (MT-1) (0.820 Km) is at 16 per cent completion, MT-2 (0.228 Km) is under preparatory works, MT-3 (1.403 Km) at 41 per cent, MT-4 (1.260 Km) at 32 per cent, MT-5 (1.480 Km) at 57 per cent with breakthrough achieved on 2 January 2026, MT-6 (0.454 Km) at 47 per cent with breakthrough achieved on 3 February, and MT-7 (0.417 Km) at 29 per cent.
Beyond tunnels, construction in Maharashtra is advancing on multiple structures.
The project’s longest river bridge on the Vaitarna river has reached pier level, while foundation-level work is underway on other major rivers including Ulhas and Jagani.
Work is also progressing on all 4 stations in Maharashtra, alongside major national and state highway crossings using long span steel bridges.
A 21 Km tunnel between Bandra Kurla Complex and Shilphata is also part of the Maharashtra scope.
Meanwhile, in the Gujarat section, the track laying and electrification works have picked up pace, with 5,400 OHE mast installed.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has said the Gujarat section of the bullet train project is expected to begin commercial operations next year.
He added that high-speed rail operations are expected to extend up to Thane by 2028, with the corridor reaching Mumbai by 2029.
