India is set to join the US-led Pax Silica initiative in February, marking a significant step in deepening bilateral cooperation on advanced technologies and semiconductor supply chains.
The move follows an announcement by the US State Department, confirming that India will be brought into the initiative after being notably absent from the inaugural Pax Silica Summit held in Washington last month.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor had earlier indicated that New Delhi would be invited to join the framework, which aims to build a secure and resilient global silicon ecosystem.
Pax Silica is designed to strengthen trusted supply chains across critical minerals, energy inputs, semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence infrastructure and logistics. The initiative seeks to reduce coercive dependencies and protect strategic technologies essential for future economic and security needs.
The term “Pax” is derived from Latin for peace, symbolising long-term stability, while “Silica” refers to silicon, the core material used in semiconductor chips that power modern computing and artificial intelligence systems.
India’s inclusion is expected to align with its broader push to expand domestic semiconductor manufacturing and integrate more closely with trusted global technology partners.
