Rishikesh serves as the gateway to the Char Dham Yatra and experiences significant traffic congestion, particularly during peak pilgrimage seasons.

The proposed bypass is expected to decongest the city by diverting through-traffic away from the urban core.

According to the minister, the project will enhance road safety, reduce travel time, and improve the overall commuting experience for road users in the region.

The bypass will also strengthen connectivity to the Char Dham routes, including Badrinath and Kedarnath via National Highway-7, and Gangotri and Yamunotri via National Highway-34.

In addition, the project is expected to improve access to Hemkund Sahib and strategically important India-China border areas such as Mana, Niti, and Nelong, which are critical from both tourism and security perspectives.
