Western Railway has carried out its first-ever simultaneous launching of twin Foot Over Bridge (FOB) girders, marking a key engineering milestone on the Virar-Surat section.
The operation involved the installation of two 12 metre FOB girders at Umbergaon Road station, executed in a single coordinated effort.
“First Ever Twin FOB Girder Launch by Western Railway In a first-of-its-kind operation, Western Railway successfully undertook the simultaneous launching of two 12 metre Foot Over Bridge (FOB) girders at Umbergaon Road on the Virar-Surat section,” the Western Railway said in a statement on X on Tuesday, 14 April.
According to Western Railway, the complex lifting and placement activity was undertaken using a 350 metric tonne working crane and a 250 metric tonne standby crane, along with two Hydra machines deployed at the site.
The operation was supported by a team of 25 labourers, ensuring smooth coordination during the simultaneous launch of both girders.
“The complex operation was executed with the deployment of one 350 MT working crane and one 250 MT standby crane, along with two Hydra machines, supported by a dedicated team of 25 labourers on site,” the railway zone said.
Western Railway stated that the execution reflects detailed planning and precision in handling heavy infrastructure components within a constrained railway environment.
