Mumbai, October 12, 2026: A new pedestrian corridor along LK Mehta Marg in Mumbai’s Bandra Bay was inaugurated on October 11, marking the first completed public infrastructure project under the Bandra Bay Beautification Initiative. The corridor is part of a wider plan to make the waterfront more accessible, with future developments including a green promenade, open lawns, a pet park, a reading zone and an amphitheatre.

Maharashtra minister and Bandra West MLA Ashish Shelar inaugurated the corridor, which was developed by Godrej Properties Limited and RC Group in partnership with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). According to a statement issued by Godrej Properties, the project is intended to improve pedestrian safety and make it easier for people to move along LK Mehta Marg.

The corridor is the first completed component of the BMC-led waterfront development plan, which aims to create more public spaces for walking, recreation and community activities along Bandra Bay.

The wider plan includes a landscaped promenade, open lawns, a pet park, a quiet reading zone and an amphitheatre. A mini golf course and a sports and activity zone are also planned for a subsequent phase.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shelar said the new corridor marked the first stage of a broader effort to improve public access to Bandra Bay. The second phase will involve establishing a direct connection between LK Mehta Marg and the waterfront, along with additional public amenities.

The proposed connection is intended to improve waterfront access and provide more space for residents and visitors to walk, relax and take part in recreational activities. However, the company did not announce a completion timeline for the second phase or specify when the planned facilities would become available.

The inauguration was marked by a community wellness programme attended by families and children. Activities included a waterfront walking challenge, stationary cycling, Zumba, yoga, pottery and painting.

Amitesh Shah, CEO for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region at Godrej Properties, said the company considered shared streets and public spaces an important part of neighbourhood development. He described the corridor’s inauguration as the first step towards implementing the broader Bandra Bay development plan.

Anup Singh, Head of Design and Regulatory at RC Group, said the project demonstrated the importance of cooperation between public authorities, private organisations and local communities in developing public infrastructure.

During the inauguration, Shelar also acknowledged the contributions of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and Mumbai Police to the project.

Although the pedestrian corridor has been inaugurated, the proposed waterfront connection, promenade and other recreational facilities remain part of the wider development plan. The company’s October 11 announcement did not disclose the project’s overall cost or provide a schedule for completing the remaining phases.
