Projects worth ₹1,55,859 crore have been completed under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) since the programme’s launch, while works valued at ₹8,952 crore are currently ongoing, according to the Ministry of Urban and Housing Affairs.
Under the flagship urban transformation programme, a total of 8,064 projects amounting to ₹1,64,811 crore were taken up since the inception of the Smart Cities Mission.
Of these, 7,767 projects have been completed, accounting for over ninety-four per cent of the total project value.

“Under Smart Cities Mission (SCM), a total 8,064 projects amounting to ₹1,64,811 Cr were taken up since inception of the mission, out of which 7,767 worth ₹1,55,859 Cr have been completed,” Union Minister of State in the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry Tokhan Sahu said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
As of 15 January, states and Union Territories reported that 297 projects remain under implementation, with a combined investment of ₹8,952 crore.
“As reported by the States/ UTs as on 15.01.2026, a total of 297 projects amounting to ₹8,952 Cr are ongoing,” the minister said.
Launched in 2015, the Smart Cities Mission aims to promote sustainable and inclusive urban development through area-based development, pan-city solutions, and technology-enabled governance.
Projects under the mission span sectors such as urban mobility, water supply, sanitation, energy efficiency, public spaces, housing, and digital infrastructure.
