Tata Motors has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across India, reinforcing its position as a key provider of public transport mobility solutions in the country.
The company said the orders were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the Government’s procurement system. Deployments will take place in phases in accordance with the schedules agreed with the respective transport undertakings.
“Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has been entrusted with cumulative orders of more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across the country. The company has secured a significant share of these nationwide orders, reaffirming its position as India’s most preferred partner in mass-mobility solutions,” the company said in a statement on Friday, 13 March.
“Each tender was awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the Government’s procurement system, with deployments scheduled in phases, as agreed with the respective STUs,” the company added.

The orders have been received from several STUs including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC), Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the Department of Road Transport (Haryana Roadways), and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU).
The cumulative orders cover a wide range of Tata Motors’ passenger mobility products, including Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and the LPO 1618, LPO 1622 and LPO 1822 variants.
These buses and bus chassis are configured for intracity, intercity and long-haul operations.
Commenting on the development, Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors, said the recognition from multiple State Transport Undertakings reflects the trust placed in Tata Motors’ mobility solutions.
He said the buses are designed to deliver comfort, safety and long-term reliability across varied terrains and duty cycles, supported by strong product engineering and a lifecycle support ecosystem built around customer uptime.
Tata Motors said the new fleets will be supported through its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 programme, which offers lifecycle management services such as maintenance support, assured turnaround times, genuine spare parts availability and breakdown assistance.
The company supports its vehicles through a nationwide network of more than 4,500 sales and service touchpoints.
Tata Motors added that its commercial passenger vehicle portfolio ranges from 9-seater to 55-seater buses across multiple powertrains, supporting mass mobility requirements across urban and rural India.
