The National Highways Authority of India has launched Rajasthan’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow tolling system at Daulatpura Toll Plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur section of NH-48, marking another step in the shift towards barrier-less toll collection on national highways.
The new system allows vehicles to pass through the tolling point without stopping, reducing the need for physical barriers and manual intervention. It uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology along with FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection to identify vehicles and collect user fees digitally.
According to NHAI, the MLFF system is aimed at ensuring smoother traffic movement on one of the busiest highway corridors connecting Delhi and Jaipur. The authority is also planning to shift the Shahjahanpur and Manoharpur toll plazas on the same section to the MLFF system.
The launch at Daulatpura follows similar MLFF-based tolling systems introduced earlier at Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat and at Mundka Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II in Delhi.
NHAI said barrier-less tolling helps reduce waiting time at toll locations, improves fuel efficiency and lowers vehicle emissions by allowing uninterrupted movement of traffic.
For highway users, the authority has advised maintaining sufficient balance in FASTag accounts. In cases of insufficient balance, invalid FASTag or non-functional FASTag, users will receive an Electronic Notice for non-payment of user fee.
Users will have to pay the normal toll fee within 72 hours of the E-Notice. If payment is not made within the deadline, the fee will be charged at twice the normal rate for the vehicle category. Users can also raise grievances within 72 hours of the notice being issued.
NHAI said non-payment of E-Notices may lead to FASTag blacklisting and restrictions on other vehicle-related services through the VAHAN platform.
The implementation of MLFF is expected to improve transparency in toll operations, reduce operational costs linked to physical toll plazas and support a more efficient digital tolling ecosystem across the country.
