India’s road infrastructure activity recorded steady progress during the April to November 2025 period, with significant widening and strengthening works carried out by state agencies and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), according to the latest monthly review released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Data from the review shows that between April 2025 and November 2025, State Public Works Departments and the Border Roads Organisation widened a total of 1,657 kilometres of roads across multiple categories. This included 288 kilometres upgraded to four, six or eight lanes, while 1,245 kilometres were expanded to two-lane configurations. In addition, 120 kilometres of existing weak pavement were strengthened during the eight-month period, reflecting continued emphasis on improving road durability alongside capacity expansion.

The review also highlights construction activity during November 2025 as a standalone month. During this period, State PWDs and the Border Roads Organisation widened 205 kilometres of roads spanning two-lane to eight-lane standards. Alongside this, 21 kilometres of weak pavement were strengthened, indicating sustained execution momentum even towards the later part of the year.

This comes as the BRO, which constructs and maintains strategic roads, bridges, tunnels and airfields in border and inaccessible regions to meet both military and civilian needs, recorded its highest-ever expenditure of ₹16,690 crore in Financial Year 2024-25.

The organisation is now eyeing an ambitious expenditure target of ₹17,900 crore for FY 2025-26.

In the two-year period from 2024 to 2025, BRO dedicated 250 infrastructure projects, marking a major milestone in strategic border development.
