Hyderabad, October 16, 2026: The Central Government has formally acquired approximately 4.7 acres of land in Telangana’s Hanumakonda district for the construction of the Kazipet Traction Substation, as part of a railway electrification upgrade on the Ramagundam–Kazipet section of South Central Railway.
According to an Extraordinary Gazette notification dated October 13, 2026, the project involves upgrading the section’s electric traction system from 1×25 kilovolts (kV) to 2×25 kV. The proposed substation will form part of the electrical infrastructure supporting railway operations along the route.
The acquisition covers 4 acres and 28 guntas, equivalent to approximately 4.7 acres, in Bheemaram village, Hasanparthy mandal, Hanumakonda district.
The land is spread across six survey numbers: 443, 444, 448, 464, 465 and 466. The Gazette schedule identifies the landholders, persons in possession and details of the affected plots, including a well recorded on one of the properties.
The Ministry of Railways initially declared its intention to acquire the land through a notification dated July 1, 2026, which was published in the Official Gazette on July 2.
Details of the proposed acquisition were subsequently published in Telugu, English and Hindi newspapers on July 9 to provide public notice of the government’s plans.
According to the latest notification, the competent authority received objections from interested persons under Section 20D of the Railways Act, 1989.
Following these objections, a re-survey was conducted and corrections were made to the acquisition records. The competent authority disposed of the objections through formal orders before submitting its report to the Central Government.
Based on the report, the government issued the final acquisition declaration under Section 20E(1) of the Railways Act.
The notification further states that, under Section 20E(2), the specified land vests absolutely in the Central Government, free from all encumbrances, upon publication in the Official Gazette.
The acquired land will be used to construct the Kazipet Traction Substation as part of the proposed upgrade to the Ramagundam–Kazipet railway electrification system.
The upgrade involves moving from a 1×25 kV to a 2×25 kV electric traction arrangement. The Gazette links the project to a railway loading target but does not explain the target or its unit of measurement in detail.
The notification confirms the acquisition of the specified land but does not disclose the estimated construction cost, the expected start date or the project’s completion schedule.
With the acquisition process completed under the notification, the specified land has vested in the Central Government for the proposed railway power infrastructure. However, the Gazette does not confirm that construction of the Kazipet substation has begun or that the upgraded traction system is operational.
