Indian Railways has approved two passenger-service expansions aimed at improving connectivity across northern, western and eastern India, including a new Bhuj–Barauni Amrit Bharat Express and the extension of the Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi–Agra Cantt Express up to Mathura.
The new tri-weekly Amrit Bharat Express will connect Bhuj in Gujarat with Barauni in Bihar, covering 2,532 km across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Train No. 19427 Bhuj–Barauni Amrit Bharat Express will depart from Bhuj at 5:30 pm and reach Barauni at 4:05 am, while Train No. 19428 will leave Barauni at 11:55 pm and reach Bhuj at 1:15 pm.
The Bhuj–Barauni service will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, while the return service from Barauni will run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The train will stop at several major stations along the route, including Ahmedabad, Ratlam, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, Mathura, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Chhapra, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur. The Railway Ministry said the service will provide an additional travel option between western and eastern parts of the country.
In a separate decision announced the same day, Indian Railways approved the extension of Train Nos. 11901/11902 Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi–Agra Cantt Express to Mathura, creating an additional direct train service between Jhansi and Mathura via Agra.
With the extension, the train’s total journey distance will increase from 217 km to 270 km. Train No. 11901 will depart Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi at 4 pm and reach Mathura at 11 pm, while Train No. 11902 will leave Mathura at 5:05 am and reach Jhansi at 12:50 pm.
The newly extended portion will have commercial stoppages at Raja ki Mandi, Runkuta, Deen Dayal Dham and Baad, improving access for passengers travelling to and from these intermediate stations.
Together, the two approvals add new long-distance connectivity between western and eastern India while also strengthening shorter inter-city rail links across Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions.
