NH-56 four-laning has been approved for the Dhamasiya-Bitada/Movi and Nasarpore-Malotha sections in Gujarat after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs cleared upgradation of two stretches covering 47.46 km and 60.21 km respectively at a total capital cost of ₹4,583.64 crore under Hybrid Annuity Mode.
The combined project length of 107.67 km forms part of National Highway-56, which begins at Nimbahera in Rajasthan, passes through Dahod district in Gujarat and Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh, before re-entering Gujarat near Chhota Udepur and terminating at its junction with NH-48 near Vapi.
The approved sections pass through the Aspirational District of Narmada and are expected to improve connectivity to tribal regions in Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Tapi and Bharuch districts. The project will also enhance access to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, located approximately 11 km from NH-56.
Designed for a maximum speed of 100 km/h and an average operational speed of 70 km/h, the upgraded corridor is projected to reduce travel time by 40 per cent, from 2.5 hours to 1.5 hours.
The 107.67 km corridor is estimated to generate approximately 19.38 lakh man-days of direct employment and 22.82 lakh man-days of indirect employment, along with additional economic activity along the route.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, through the National Highways Authority of India, is upgrading the congested Jambugam (Bodeli)-Malotha section of NH-56 under four packages. Work on the Jambugam (Bodeli)-Dhamasiya and Movi-Nasarpore stretches commenced in November 2025 with a target completion period of two years.
Upon completion, continuous four-lane connectivity from Bodeli to Malotha will be established, easing congestion on NH-56 and strengthening links to NH-53, NH-48 and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (NE-4).
