New Delhi, October 15, 2026: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has inaugurated its new car manufacturing plant at Talegaon in Pune, Maharashtra, with plans to invest ₹11,000 crore in phases and increase annual production capacity from 1.7 lakh to 3.2 lakh vehicles by 2030. The facility will manufacture the all-new Hyundai Venue for international markets, with exports planned to more than 35 countries.

The plant was inaugurated on October 14 by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, senior company executives and government representatives. The inauguration coincided with Hyundai’s completion of 30 years of operations in India and its milestone of four million cumulative passenger vehicle exports.

According to Hyundai, the Pune facility has an initial annual production capacity of 170,000 vehicles, which the company plans to increase to 320,000 by 2030. The expansion would add capacity for another 150,000 vehicles annually, representing an increase of approximately 88%.

Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said the company plans to invest ₹11,000 crore in phases at the facility. The plant also includes an engine manufacturing unit with an annual capacity of 1.5 lakh engines.

The factory uses artificial intelligence (AI)-based quality inspection systems to detect manufacturing defects, predictive maintenance technology to identify potential equipment problems, and digital simulations to support production processes. Augmented reality is also being used to train workers.

The facility is expected to strengthen Hyundai’s vehicle export operations, with the all-new Venue planned for international markets. The company has not specified when exports to all the targeted countries will begin.

The project has also attracted investment from automotive component manufacturers. According to Hyundai, 55 supplier partners have invested nearly ₹4,600 crore in Maharashtra, while the wider supplier network, including tier-II vendors, has generated more than 18,000 employment opportunities.

Hyundai also announced that it has crossed four million cumulative passenger vehicle exports from India since 1999. According to the company, it is the first car manufacturer in the country to reach this milestone.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung said, “India remains one of Hyundai’s most important and strategic markets globally. The inauguration of the Pune plant reflects our long-term commitment to India’s growth and our confidence in its bright future. Hyundai Motor India Limited’s milestone of 4 million cumulative vehicle exports demonstrates the global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing and highlights India’s growing role within Hyundai Motor Group’s worldwide operations.”

The inauguration comes as Hyundai marks three decades of operations in India. Since entering the Indian market in 1996, the company says it has served nearly 10 million customers and developed a substantial domestic manufacturing and export business.

The Pune facility forms part of Hyundai Motor Group’s broader India expansion strategy. On October 13, the group announced plans to invest $15.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2032, covering manufacturing, research and development, local supplier partnerships and emerging automotive technologies.

With its planned capacity expansion, supplier investments and export operations, the Pune plant is expected to play a larger role in Hyundai’s manufacturing network in India and its international vehicle business.
