India’s 13 major ports handle 672.98 MT cargo in April-December 2025, up 8.22 per cent

Cargo handled at India’s 13 major ports rose 8.22 per cent during April-December 2025 to 672.98 Million Tonnes (MT), compared to 621.88 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Monthly Review Report on Infrastructure Performance for December released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The report stated that during April 2025-December 2025, total cargo handling by the 13 major ports stood at 672.98 MT, marking higher growth compared to the same period last year. The growth rate increased to 3.25 per cent, compared to 2.07 per cent recorded during April 2024-December 2024.

Coal handling at major ports during April-December 2025 reached 144.40 MT, registering cumulative growth of 4.50 per cent over 138.19 MT handled during April-December 2024.

In December 2025 alone, the 13 major ports handled 81.49 MT of cargo, which was 12.69 per cent higher than the cargo handled in December 2024.

Coal handled at major ports in December 2025 stood at 16.08 MT, reflecting year-on-year growth of 13.24 per cent.

Among the major ports, the top five in total cargo handling during April-December 2025 were Kandla at 116.25 MT, Paradip at 115.26 MT, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust at 75.43 MT, Visakhapatnam at 66.28 MT and Mumbai at 56.25 MT.

In terms of coal handling during the same period, the top five ports were Paradip at 51.43 MT, Kamarajar at 18.95 MT, Haldia at 14.30 MT, Kandla at 14.04 MT and Visakhapatnam at 11.81 MT.
