Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. has secured a contract worth ₹127 crore from Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited, Bhutan, for construction works related to the Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project.
The scope of work includes the construction of diversion tunnels, hydromechanical gates and cofferdams.
The contract is scheduled to be completed within 9 months.
The award follows Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited’s technical and financial evaluation process.
According to HCC, the diversion works are critical for allowing the early start of the project’s primary civil works and maintaining the overall implementation schedule of the Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project.
The company said the contract also reflects its experience in executing complex hydroelectric projects in challenging geographies.

Bhutan’s hydropower sector is set for further expansion under the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan for 2024-29.
The Himalayan nation’s government is targeting 6,000 MW of installed capacity and continued investment in large hydroelectric projects.
HCC has been present in Bhutan for more than 3 decades.
Its work in the country includes hydropower projects such as Tala 1,020 MW, Kurichu 60 MW, Punatsangchhu-1 1,200 MW, Dagachhu 114 MW and Nikachhu 118 MW.
The company said it has also executed 26% of India’s installed hydropower capacity.
HCC has an engineering heritage of nearly 100 years and works across transportation, power and water infrastructure.
The company has constructed 26% of India’s hydropower generation capacity, 60% of India’s nuclear power generation capacity, over 4,036 lane Km of expressways and highways, more than 402 Km of complex tunnelling and 403 bridges.
