Gadkari reviews 4,826 Km National Highway projects in Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland, directs monsoon preparedness

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, 2 June, reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of 4,826 Km of National Highway projects across Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.

The review covered 1,489 Km of National Highway projects in Mizoram, 1,759 Km in Manipur and 1,578 Km in Nagaland. It was held in New Delhi with officials from NHAI, NHIDCL, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and project contractors.

The review was based on inputs received through media and social media, with the minister focusing on timely execution, strict quality standards and the use of advanced technologies in highway construction and maintenance.

Gadkari said improved road connectivity plays an important role in strengthening regional connectivity, supporting economic growth and improving convenience for commuters.

He directed officials to ensure comprehensive monsoon preparedness through preventive measures and strong response systems to maintain road safety and durability during the rainy season.

The minister also stressed the need to speed up on-ground execution, strengthen quality monitoring and adopt modern construction practices to improve asset life, riding quality and seamless connectivity across key highway corridors.

Officials were further asked to undertake advance monsoon preparedness measures, including effective drainage management, slope protection and quick-response mechanisms to minimise disruptions and ensure commuter safety.
