DigiLocker has onboarded 68 electricity distribution companies and power departments across the country, enabling millions of consumers to access their electricity bills digitally through the platform.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Wednesday (10 June), the integration covers utilities across 35 States and Union Territories and includes state-owned distribution companies, municipal electricity departments and private power distributors.
The ministry said the move will allow consumers to securely access issuer-sourced electricity bills directly through the DigiLocker application, reducing dependence on physical copies and improving access to essential utility documents.
Consumers will be able to retrieve their latest electricity bills digitally whenever required without having to search through emails or visit service provider offices.
Among the utilities now available on DigiLocker are Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited and Noida Power Company Limited.
The ministry described the onboarding of 68 electricity utilities as a significant milestone in DigiLocker’s efforts to make citizen documents accessible through a secure digital platform.
It said the expansion of DigiLocker’s ecosystem of trusted issuers will help simplify access to government and utility-issued credentials while enabling organisations to streamline digital service delivery.
The integration is part of the government’s broader Digital India initiative aimed at improving citizen access to digital public services and reducing paperwork through authenticated digital documents.
