GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja Mangoes from Madhya Pradesh have entered the UAE market with their first commercial export shipment, marking a major step for the region-specific mango variety.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, facilitated the shipment to the United Arab Emirates.

According to the ministry, the first commercial export consignment comprised one metric tonne of GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja Mangoes and was exported on 26 June 2026 by M/s Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd.

The mangoes were sourced from M/s Seondha Farmer Producer Company Limited and progressive farmer Sonu Gupta of Govindgarh in Rewa district.

Before shipment, the mangoes were harvested as per prescribed quality standards and then taken through grading, sorting and export-quality packaging at the APEDA-facilitated pack house of Trisagar Farmer Producer Company in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh.

After completion of export packaging and phytosanitary requirements, the consignment was transported to Varanasi Airport for onward air shipment to the UAE.

The export is expected to provide better returns to mango growers in the Rewa region.

According to the ministry, Rewa Sundarja Mangoes are sold in the local market at around ₹100 to ₹110 per kilogram, while the exporter procured the produce at ₹150 per kilogram.

This gave farmers a premium of ₹40 to ₹50 per kilogram and underlined the role of export-oriented value chains in improving returns for region-specific agricultural products.

APEDA had worked with the Madhya Pradesh Horticulture Department, exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations, pack house operators and international buyers over the past several months to establish export linkages for the mango variety.

The ministry said the initiative is also expected to encourage more farmers to adopt quality production and post-harvest practices while expanding their access to international markets.

Rewa Sundarja Mango is known for its sweetness, aroma, fibreless pulp and distinctive flavour.

The variety’s Geographical Indication registration has helped create a distinct identity for it in domestic and international markets.

A flag-off ceremony for the first commercial export consignment was organised on 26 June 2026.
