All user fee payments at National Highway toll plazas across the country are being processed exclusively through digital modes such as FASTag and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from 10 April, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement on Saturday, 11 April.
The move marks a shift towards fully digital toll collection aimed at improving efficiency, reducing transaction time and enhancing transparency across highway operations.
“In a significant step towards strengthening efficiency and transparency in toll collection, all user fee payments at National Highway fee plazas across the country are being processed exclusively through digital modes of FASTag or Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from 10.04.2026,” the ministry said.
The rollout has been deferred in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and West Bengal, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry, as the Model Code of Conduct remains in force in these four states and one UT amid ongoing poll process.
“However, this transition has not been implemented in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and West Bengal, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry, in view of the Model Code of Conduct currently in force due to ongoing electoral process,” the ministry said.
