New Delhi, October 6: The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited for the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships.

The contract was signed in New Delhi on October 6 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and has been placed under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the project will have a minimum indigenous content of 68% and is expected to involve several Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises.

The project is also expected to generate employment over a period of three years.

The BrahMos system fitted onboard frontline Indian Navy warships serves as the Navy’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations.

The missile system is capable of engaging both land and sea targets at extended ranges with high accuracy while travelling at supersonic speeds.

The ministry said the project marks a critical milestone in ongoing efforts to indigenise advanced military technology while strengthening India’s maritime security and defence capabilities.
