The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) has launched a free aviation-sector skill development programme for project-affected persons linked to the Navi Mumbai International Airport, aiming to prepare local youth for jobs in airport and aviation services.
In a statement on Monday, 8 June, CIDCO, the Maharashtra government agency that has been associated with the planning, rehabilitation and development process of the Navi Mumbai airport project, said the programme is being implemented in coordination with the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society.
The CIDCO is also a stakeholder in Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (NMIAL), the special purpose vehicle developing the airport.
NMIAL is a joint venture between CIDCO and Adani Airport Holdings Limited, with CIDCO retaining a 26 per cent stake in the airport company.
The training will be conducted through Vipra Skill India Pvt. Ltd., an agency associated with MSSDS for skill development activities.
Under the programme, eligible project-affected youth will receive training in aviation-related roles, including Customer Service Executive, Airline Baggage Handler, Airport Terminal Operations Manager, Airport Cargo Operations and Airline Ground Staff.
All courses will be conducted free of cost and will run for three months.
CIDCO said the initiative is expected to create a pool of skilled local manpower capable of meeting workforce requirements at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and allied aviation services.
The corporation said the programme is part of its efforts to ensure that families affected by major infrastructure projects benefit from the economic opportunities generated by such projects.
