Airlines operating in India have reported multiple incidents involving interference with Global Positioning System (GPS) signals used for aircraft navigation, according to information shared in Parliament by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

A further 623 incidents were reported between January 2026 and February 2026.

“The total number of GPS interference reported by airlines are 2354 from November, 2023 – December, 2025 and 623 from January, 2026 – February, 2026,” the minister said.

According to the minister, GPS spoofing and signal interference affecting aircraft navigation systems are not limited to India. Such incidents have been increasingly reported globally, particularly in regions located near or around geopolitical conflict zones where electronic interference activity is more common.

“GPS spoofing linked disruptions are a global phenomenon which were observed with increased frequency in geographical areas surrounding conflict zones,” he said.

To address the issue, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued Advisory Circular on 24 November 2023 to guide stakeholders in dealing with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference in Indian airspace.

“In addition, DGCA has also issued Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) dated 10.11.2025 for real-time reporting of GPS Spoofing/GNSS interference events around IGI airport,” the minister said.

The minister added that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has apprised Wireless Monitoring Organization (WMO) from time to time regarding incidents of GPS interference/ spoofing for investigation.
