New Delhi, September 19: Indian Railways has approved projects worth a combined ₹275.23 crore to improve road-rail movement in Gujarat and strengthen electric traction infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
The approvals include a ₹133.23-crore four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of Western Railway and a ₹142-crore upgrade of the electric traction system on the Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway.
The new ROB will replace Level Crossing No. 53 at Km 62/2-4 on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section. The project will facilitate smoother road traffic and reduce interference with railway operations. It will be implemented on a cost-sharing basis, with Indian Railways contributing ₹66.6147 crore and the state government ₹66.6148 crore.
The railway bridge portion of the ROB will comprise an Open Web Girder and is estimated to cost ₹91.60 crore. The viaduct will have a total length of 311.58 metres, while the railway approach will extend 524.32 metres. The crossing has a 62% skew, which increases the design and construction complexity.
On the Savalyapuram-Guntur section, Railways will upgrade the electric traction system from 1×25 kV to 2×25 kV. The ₹142-crore project covers 73 route kilometres and 146 track kilometres and will strengthen the electric traction infrastructure to support growing railway operations.
The Savalyapuram-Guntur section forms part of HUN Route 8, covering the Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savalyapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada route. Railways said the upgraded traction system will strengthen the capacity and reliability of the route, support smoother train operations and cater to growing traffic requirements more efficiently.
