Gurugram: Three infrastructure agencies have agreed on a coordinated set of engineering measures to address recurring waterlogging at the Bajghera underpass, a location that has remained vulnerable during spells of heavy rainfall.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, National Highways Authority of India and Public Works Department have finalised a joint action plan to improve stormwater management around the underpass.
The decision followed a coordination meeting involving officials of the three agencies, during which responsibilities were divided for carrying out the proposed works.
GMDA Chief Executive Officer PC Meena took suo motu cognisance of the inconvenience caused by waterlogging at the underpass and directed officials to work with NHAI and the PWD on a coordinated long-term response.
The underpass falls under NHAI’s jurisdiction, while the road is owned by the PWD’s Buildings and Roads wing. Officials of all three agencies subsequently inspected the site and prepared the action plan.
Under the plan, NHAI will construct table tops on the approach roads to regulate the flow of stormwater towards the underpass during heavy rainfall.
The authority will also inspect the existing sump wells and pumping infrastructure to assess their operational condition. Repairs or upgrades will be undertaken wherever required to improve drainage efficiency.
The PWD has been assigned the construction of surface drains to intercept rainwater flowing towards the underpass.
These drains will be connected to GMDA’s Leg-1 master drain, allowing stormwater to be discharged into the city’s main drainage network and reducing the risk of accumulation at the site.
Officials said the three agencies would coordinate the execution of the works and jointly monitor their progress.
No specific completion date has been announced. The agencies are seeking to expedite the proposed measures ahead of further spells of heavy rainfall.
Officials expect the coordinated intervention to improve drainage around the Bajghera underpass and reduce recurring waterlogging during the monsoon.
The initiative is part of GMDA’s broader efforts to strengthen Gurugram’s stormwater drainage network through inter-agency coordination and targeted infrastructure work at flood-prone locations.
