Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a virtual meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Commerce Dr Majid bin Abdullah Al Qassabi on Friday, 11 April, during which both sides reviewed the evolving situation in West Asia and stressed the need to ensure continuity of supply chains, according to an official statement.
The discussion comes amid ongoing regional tensions that have disrupted trade flows and logistics networks across West Asia.
Goyal expressed optimism that the recently announced ceasefire would help pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region. He hailed the resilience shown by Saudi Arabia in maintaining supply chains despite volatility.
He also condemned attacks in the region during the ongoing conflict and appreciated Saudi Arabia’s efforts to safeguard the Indian community.
“Both sides noted the strain conflict has put on regional supply chains and stressed the need for an early recovery through coordinated efforts to ensure smooth trade flows,” the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in the statement.
Goyal highlighted steps taken by India to support exports to Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region, indicating continued engagement to stabilise bilateral trade.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and expressed optimism for early progress in the India-GCC Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, according to the ministry.
“The meeting underscored the shared commitment to further deepening the India-Saudi Arabia economic partnership,” the ministry added.
