India’s crude oil production declined 1.78 per cent during April-December 2025 to 21.17 Million Metric Tonnes MMT, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Monthly Review Report on Infrastructure Performance for December released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The output during the April-December period was 89.85 per cent of the target set for the financial year.
“During April 2025 – December 2025, the production of Crude Oil was 21.17 MMT; which was 89.85 per cent of the target for the period and 1.78 per cent lower than the production during the corresponding period of the previous year,” the report said.
The company-wise share of total production value stands at 13.45 MMT, 2.53 MMT and 5.18 MMT by ONGC, OIL and Private/JVC respectively, it added.
In December 2025 alone, crude oil production stood at 2.33 MMT, which was 86.4 per cent of the monthly target and 5.59 per cent lower than December 2024.
The report cited several factors for the shortfall in production, including unplanned power shutdowns, lower-than-anticipated output from drilling and work-over wells, operational losses, reduced new inputs, water cut, maintenance activities, pump issues, tubing leakages, closure of wells for reservoir management and to reduce flaring, low consumer demand, delays in drilling due to disputed area belt issues, pending environmental and forest clearances, and project delays.
