India has marked another milestone in railway exports with the dispatch of the tenth indigenous 3300 HP AC-AC diesel-electric locomotive from Banaras Rail Engine Factory in Varanasi to Mozambique on Saturday, 21 February.
The locomotive is part of a 10-engine export order secured for Mozambique, executed through RITES Limited under a contract for the manufacture and supply of 3300 HP AC-AC diesel-electric locomotives.
According to the Rail Ministry, the first two locomotives were dispatched in June 2025, followed by the third in September, the fourth in October and the fifth on 12 December.
The sixth locomotive was sent on 15 December 2025, the seventh on 8 January 2026, the eighth on 23 January 2026 and the ninth on 17 February 2026.
The tenth and final unit was flagged off on 21 February.
The locomotives, manufactured at Banaras Rail Engine Factory, are 3300 HP Cape Gauge 1067 mm units capable of operating at speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
Designed to meet international standards, they are equipped with driver-friendly features including a refrigerator, hot plate, mobile holder and a modern cabin layout aimed at improving crew comfort and operational efficiency.
The export underscores India’s growing capabilities in locomotive design and manufacturing for global markets.
Since 2014, the factory has exported locomotives to Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Mozambique, contributing to railway capacity enhancement in partner countries.
The ministry stated that the export aligns with the vision of Make in India and Make for the World, reflecting Indian Railways’ ability to design, manufacture and supply rolling stock suited to different gauge systems globally.
