In a bid to make India’s airports more inclusive and passenger-friendly, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched multiple passenger-centric initiatives.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol inaugurated the initiatives in the presence of Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and other senior officials from Coimbatore airport on Friday, 20 January.

As part of efforts to promote Ease of Flying and ensure seamless travel, the UDAN Yatri Café has been extended to five additional airports – Coimbatore, Mumbai, Surat, Mangaluru and Trivandrum.

Digi Yatra, the contactless biometric passenger processing system, has been launched at six more airports – Port Blair, Trivandrum, Surat, Mangaluru, Navi Mumbai and Nagpur – enabling facial recognition-based entry and boarding for registered passengers.

The ministry also announced the introduction of free Wi-Fi services at 39 airports across the country.

In addition, facilities such as Flybrary and Kids Zones were dedicated across 44 airports nationwide to improve passenger convenience.

Further, in view of the growing footfall at Coimbatore Airport, a new state-of-the-art terminal building with an annual capacity of 1.2 crore passengers is being planned, the ministry said.

The expanded Security Hold Area at the airport was also inaugurated, aimed at strengthening passenger handling capacity and improving service delivery.

The Ministry stated that these initiatives are part of the broader push to modernise airport infrastructure and enhance the overall passenger experience across India’s aviation network.
