The Government of India, Ministry of Power has initiated the process to establish an inter-state transmission system at the Fatehgarh-II power substation in Rajasthan, inviting bids to select a transmission service provider for the project.
PFC Consulting Limited has been appointed as the bid process coordinator to conduct tariff-based competitive bidding for the installation of two synchronous condenser units at the 765/400/220 kV Fatehgarh-II pooling station.
The selected developer will be responsible for building, owning, operating and transferring the project, while providing transmission services in accordance with applicable regulations.
The scheme involves installing two synchronous condenser units at the 400 kV level along with two associated bays, with the project scheduled for commissioning within 30 months from the date of allocation.
Each unit will provide dynamic support and short-circuit contribution to the grid.

The project follows deliberations that renewable energy power is being integrated at a very fast pace in the Northern Region, requiring measures to ensure grid stability and provide inertial support.
A committee comprising members from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC), Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC), Central Transmission Utility (CTU) and State Transmission Utilities (STU) evaluated technological options and recommended synchronous condensers at renewable energy pooling stations, including Fatehgarh-II.
Grid India has observed sustained oscillations on a real-time basis at the Fatehgarh-II pooling station, highlighting the requirement for stabilising infrastructure.
The transmission scheme has been discussed and agreed upon in multiple technical and regional committee meetings before the Ministry of Power declared it for implementation through the tariff-based competitive bidding route.
POWERGRID will provide space free of cost for the installation of the condenser units along with the associated bays at the substation.
