KLA Corporation, a US-based semiconductor equipment manufacturer and a global leader in process control and yield management solutions for the electronics industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu state government to establish a permanent Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation Campus in Chennai.

KLA India was established in 2004 as a software hub with three offices in Chennai, including a state-of-the-art, high-tech research and development center.

Over the years, the company has supported semiconductor manufacturing worldwide through software development, advanced engineering, and design capabilities from its India centres.

The company now plans to invest $400 million, approximately INR 3,600 crore, over the next ten years to develop the 12-acre facility, which will function as KLA’s global R&D hub.

The campus will drive advanced research in AI-driven semiconductor innovation, high-performance computing, and next-generation process-control software and algorithms.

The proposed centre is expected to create up to 4,000 high-skilled jobs over the coming decade, significantly expanding the deep-technology talent pool and strengthening India’s semiconductor research capabilities.

The investment is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain while further advancing Chennai’s role as a key technology and research hub within the country.
