Maharashtra signed Memorandums of Understanding worth ₹37 lakh crore at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with the proposed investments expected to generate employment for around 43 lakh people in the state, Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Samant said a total of 81 agreements were concluded during the Davos visit. Of these, 51 MoUs, valued at ₹16.69 lakh crore, relate to the industrial sector. Another 24 agreements worth ₹19.43 lakh crore were signed under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, while six agreements amounting to ₹1.15 lakh crore were signed under CIDCO.
According to the minister, about 80 per cent of the total proposed investment is expected to come to Maharashtra as foreign direct investment. He said implementation has already begun for a large share of the ₹15 lakh crore worth of MoUs signed at the previous World Economic Forum, with industrial projects taking shape in districts such as Gadchiroli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ratnagiri and Raigad.
Samant said the latest investment proposals cover sectors including automobiles, real estate, defence and pharmaceuticals. He added that efforts are underway to attract ₹1 lakh crore in investment for the Raigad-Pen Growth Centre under the Third Mumbai project.
Providing a regional breakup of proposed investments, the minister said around ₹23 lakh crore is planned for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, ₹7.72 lakh crore across multiple locations, ₹3.10 lakh crore in the Konkan region, ₹1.95 lakh crore in Nagpur, ₹30,100 crore in Nashik, ₹17,700 crore in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, ₹3,250 crore in Pune and ₹1,000 crore in Amravati.
On foreign investment, Samant said Maharashtra continues to lead the country, citing central government data that recorded ₹1.64 lakh crore in foreign direct investment inflows to the state last year. He also noted that industrial projects generally take four to five years to become operational.
The minister said details of expenditure incurred during the Davos visit would be made public soon. He also clarified that the Bulk Drug Park project remains in Maharashtra and is being developed in Raigad.
